The problem with this, is exactly what he says. "Taking the muscle out of the muscle car".

Well.. why would I want to do that? That's why I bought a Mustang. Why try to turn it into something it's not. Why buy a car that's not designed to be a track weapon, and then endeavor to make it into one? If that's what I wanted, I'd probably not have bought a Mustang to start with.

If you want agility on the track etc... go buy a Lotus Exige. The Mustang is a muscle car.

But i fail to see how by adding 165bhp is doing that, its more like sticking arnie swarzanegger in your engine.

a V6 with 375bhp oh happy days.

Totally agree with you-Hated the graphics on the Car, but that aside loved it.

Me I like it, in this day and age, a V6 that handles and puts out 375hp would be a lot of fun. Might even be economical every day! It looks really cool too. Id like one of those bonnets...

Its honest thats for sure. The 4.6 3v isnt big enough to compete with GM and Chrysler as a muscle car engine, much the same as back in the 60's I spose.

First post for me!

I remember thinking when the new mustang came out that it wouldn't bother me having a V6 as i just wanted 'the mustang' and wasn't too fussed about where the power was coming from so I can kind sort of see the point in this version, but imo the graphics are naff and $18k for the work seems steep, considering the whole car costs less than that to begin with!
"Take the muscle out of a muscle car"...hmmm, well I suppose they ain't putting 2.0 diesels in them for an 'eco' version and market them "Take the p*** out of a muscle car"

I suppose I see the mustang as more of a muscle car and less of a racer, just like Cuda's, Challengers, Camaro's I would probably feel slightly cheated out of the experience of owning a muscle car if I bought any of them without a V8 under the hood.
Saying that I don't own a mustang btw (I cant afford one) so I shouldn't be so fussy as I'd be lucky to have a v6 version...

There was me thinking Mustangs, Challengers and Camaros were pony cars. Either way, I think its the best car Shelby has come up with since after 65. Each to their own!

Aww come on, it was a cook up in texas! and the logo was created by too much beer, chilli and a desire to start a race team to win a few races in SCCA B series then Trans Am races. Dont tell me you did'nt know that

I suppose your right, they probably are in their purest form, it seems that the less hardcore versions find more buyers, I reckon a similar thing will happen with the new challenger.

The whole muscle car experience is what inspires me and draws me to this type of car, more so than say the pony car image, as a muscle car is sooo far removed from what I drive now... which is certainly no muscle car!

LOL... the standard V6 is no more economical than the V8, so if anything, this will be far worse than the GT in terms of MPG. Adding 155bhp by turbocharging it can't possibly IMPROVE economy now can it?

Why not just start with a V8 and have a less expensive modification done!

All this talk of weight saving is crap as well. The cast iron V6 engine isn't exactly a lightweight!! The all alloy V8 is only slightly heavier.

Just a stupid, pointless exercise if you ask me.

I've been on the forums a long time, and most people who buy a V6 do so because their budget doesn't stretch to a V8. So the same people will not be buying this. If they can afford to buy it, one would ask why they'd want it in the first place.

Fuel economy hasn't been a factor in any person's V6 buying reasons since I started reading these forums. It's always the initial purchase price and insurance premiums.

I just think they've created a really nice car with no market for it if you ask me.

I can see your point but, as with every other Mustang, its each to his or her own!
That said, I only said it might improve fuel consumption - fairly lightheartedly

Its supercharged not turbo charged

The V6 weighs about 3-400lbs less than a V8 (it isnt just the motor, drivetrain, axles etc change too)

The 4.0 has forged pistons and rods, better to handle the boost, swap the pistons and it'll handle way more than a V8 will (boost-wise)

I think its a cool car, Id have one if I had the money! $18k is not a massive up charge when you consider the graphics, Vortech, brakes, suspension, side exit exhaust, body kit, interior bling...

And the modV8 weighs more than a 460 once installed!

I can honestly say i did not buy a V6 because "My budget did not allow me to buy a V8"
I brought a V6 because i have always wanted a Mustang, regardless of year or specification....but one thing i have come to understand over the year i have been a member of the "MUSTANG OWNERS CLUB OF GREAT BRITAIN" is that unless you own a Mustang of a certain year or engine size certain people and i know it is the minority feel they can look down on your car. but hey each to there own, because of this i will not be renewing my membership, but would just like to thank everyone who has given me help and advice in my first year of owning the biggest head turning car you could have...enjoy!
