S197 GT exhaust ideas

Hi guys,

I have some custom cats fitted to my car currently, they sound great (loud) when accelerating however when cruising they do drone which is quite tiresome.

My last s197 had GT500KR cats which I loved but they are pretty rare.

So I’m looking for ideas of what to fit, I don’t mind noise but I would like to eliminate the drone if possible. My current tips are 4” and look the part so would like something similar looking to those.

What would you recommend?

PS don’t think I’ve been up all night thinking about this! I’m on nights!

Have you used them?

Ive had the following axle backs

Loudmouths, they were deep but no drone

Roush, these are really "raspy" lovely, no drone

Magnaflow, loudest pipes ive had drone in 6th gear when climbing gradients after a while you had to shift to 5th to stop the drone

BBK Varitunes, these are louder than stock but not as loud as 1 and 2, allows you to adjust the baffle with a spanner so you can have loud or quiet and anything in between

Yes Geoff, I want to buy in the uk ideally otherwise it’ll become expensive. Although I may at some point be forced to bite the bullet....

I have SLPs on mine and is the best money I have spent on the car, mind you they only cost me £75.
But if you don't like drone on the motorway then probably not for you, they are loud your niegbours wont like you if you leave early in the morning.

That’s basically what I have now Dave, what I have are monumentally loud which I don’t mind but I have the drone, I get it at 40-45 and motorway cruising.

I couldn't live with that, get the Ford Racing ones previously mentioned, they're perfect. Get them shipped in Ron's container will save money.

I really think it depends on how you use the car. My S197 is my daily driver and I have a 65 coupe as my other car. The 65 is the play thing and it has louder exhausts that drone at motorway speeds. The S197 has the std exhaust that goes dead quiet at motorway speeds so cruising at 70+ and listening to the radio/CD is very comfortable and relaxing. On the 65 I have really struggled to get an exhaust that gives a V8 burble and nice throaty lowdown acceleration that will not drone at speed but I have not achieved that and I don't know how achievable it actually is. The S197 is really quite quiet as it is but I am not altering it.
