Ram Air hoods for S197

The dreaded rust on the hood has got as bad as I can bear to look at now so I've started looking for a new hood. Regarding the Ram Air hoods (and this may be a remarkably dumb question!!) if the hood as a large gapping hole in it and I'm driving in the rain won't the engine get very wet??

If it is a dumb question be gentle with me :-/

Pete, I had the Cervinis Stalker II hood fitted on my S197. Shipped to Ron Fenton and fitted by Custom Exotics. Like you I was concerned about water getting in when driving in the rain so I had the guys at Custom Exotics put a mesh grill across the opening which still allowed good air flow but stopped water getting in. On the rare accessions I had to drive in the rain there was never any more than a few droplets under the bonnet.

Thanks for this, I knew there was a post and I knew it was Custom Exotics I couldn't find the post. That looks great, pretty much what I'm after. I thinking of going over there tomorrow - I shall take a couple of screen shots of your car with me to jog there memory and tell them "ditto" but in green :)

Just an opinion, given that you car is a Bullitt and as such not a model you’d want to alter the appearance of too drastically, have you considered this hood? https://www.cervinis.com/05-09mustan...-air-hood.html Also by Cervinis but a little more discreet than the Stalker II and almost reminiscent of the original 68 hood.

Another thing to remember is to make sure you order their hood struts with the new hood. If they are out of stock go with the Redline ones.

Another friend has ordered a hood from Cervini with their hood struts. Also on route to Ron’s place.
If they should be out of stock of the struts I see CJ Pony also sell the Cervini ones.

Hood ordered. Went with the Ford Performance Structs in the end though.

Can't wait to see it on the car now. Buzzing!!

Pete, I suggested the Cervinis or Redline struts because they are designed to work with fibre glass hoods which are a fair bit heavier than the stock item. If the Ford Performance struts are designed for the stock hood they’re not going to be up to the job.
