      Never seen anyone use body filler over welds on a chassis before, feels like a bit of a bodge (but that’s just my opinion), I would have thought grinding them would have been the “proper job”.

        The chassis join reinforcing plates should never have been there, neither should the join.
        Covering the welds is unneccesary if the welds were neat, which they didn't look to be.

        Ford and others spend millions of pounds and thousands of hours designing chassis components to fold progressively in a crash to protect the passenger compartment and to absorb energy that may end up moving through the other vehicle involved.
        Cutting and joining and then adding strength is not how Ford intended it to be.
