69 TransAm replica to race at Members Meeting next weekend

This 69 Bud Moore replica trans am with 70 front end is being raced by the owner Craig Davies and Jason Plato!
Apparently it has a potent motor which it will need against stiff opposition including Camaros.

I'll get some pictures up later including some of the Boss.

I gave up just after lunch ...... I can deal with cold...... I can cope with wet.......... but wet and cold snow dampened my enthusiasm somewhat.......

              Here we go

              all my pic are here.....

Gutted went today to watch the Boss in action and it had been withdrawn after losing the bonnet yesterday. Too badly damaged to repair in time apparently!

Amazed it lost its bonnet - that would mean two separate hood pins would have to have failed ?

Interesting that when the bonnet went it took the hinges with it too - I have never seen that before on any car. Looked massively stiff at the front and the dampers were struggling to contain the springs, I wonder if there was some sort of vibrasion/stress failure that led to the bonnet escaping?

I think the car is mega. Its been beautifully prepared by Henry Mann and his team and its a real credit to them. Unfortunately the pins ( R clips) on the bonnet simply failed in shear. You can see on the in car video one fails and with in a fraction of a second the other lets go under the additional load.
As anyone that was at Good wood will tell you it was about as colder day as you will ever witness at a race meeting. The fact that engine bay now didn't have a lid on it meant that all the heat from the engine dissipated, and despite the racing loads the oil and water temp dropped away, Mr Plato thought he had lost the coolant so pitted, and it was decided to retire the car.
As you could see the bonnet left the scene complete with hinges, However the fasteners that attach the hinges to the car caused a fair chunk of damage to the inner wings, pretty much ripping out the hard points through the steel work. This made making a good and safe reattachment difficult to achieve.
The car had only run for a week or 2 before the meeting, both tests were blighted with poor weather and a few issues, as you'd expect with a new build, so track time prior to the race was very limited.

A bit more testing and I think it will be a real contender.

Those of you who weathered the conditions to see the car in action I hope you enjoyed the sight and the sound of that screaming boss engine!
                      All the best,
                      Cheers JON

And a '70 rear, as well as the rest of the shell as it is a '70.
