    front suspension

Does anybody know what the large nut and the small slot in top of this strut do. or is it just the normal strut top fixing?

Strut top, the slot is probably to allow the shaft to be kept from spinning round to allow the bolt to be undone.

Looks quite a lot different to mine as looks like you've got aftermarker camber/caster adjustment plates fitted so can't say if its "normal"...

The 1,2,3,(4), around the screw in the top suggests adjustable shocks via the slotted screw.
The large nut holds the shock into the top bearing, it looks like it has a spacer under it whereas normally the nut would sit lower.
