Just had the insurance renewal through and they wanted 654 for two cars - the V8 and a 1.4 litre Corsa. They kindly reminded me that is was up from 609 the previous year and I could look around for other quotes. !!

So - many thanks to them as a 7% rise is not on, so now have a quote...

I only noticed it when the driver flashed me and I had barely time to acknowledge. No time to see what reg or whether a V8 or not. I don't really look out as they are so rare up here. Mine is race red and it was that metallic maroon colour that is now discontinued. I might have ordered it, but when...

I seem to recall that many years ago, car covers were considered to be bad news as they basically held the damp in, and the recent posts seem to confirm that. It was deemed better to let the car get wet and then dry out naturally. Even unheated garages were supposed not to be ideal, if you put the car...

I have had a look at the actual service plan documentation. It is 21.49 a month from 1 April to Jan 2023, so is actually 34 payments. That is 730. It does not include any Mot. It does not include collection, but don't expect it as I am 50 miles away from the dealer !...

Daz - no lump sum to pay. Plus if I do sell the car, I get anything back that has not been "used". I was also offered loads of insurance for damage to wheels/tyres. GAP insurance and so on, but I did not take any of those up as personally in general I take out none of these products as...

I purchased a service plan when I bought my 5.0 V8 new in March 2020. It costs 21.49 per month and is for three years, but I am not sure if that includes the Mot, but it would only be one. I thought it was good value as I pay 16.99 per month for a 1.4 litre Corsa, that does not include Mot costs,...

Many thanks Inky for confirming that your car does not use oil. These comments help immensely. I have put Ford Credit on notice that in my opinion that there is an issue and it is recorded on my account, but did not actually complain. I did not think it fair to complain whilst we are in the investigation...

Ian - many thanks, that is a lot of help - as it goes some way to proving that 1 pint per 680 miles is NOT normal as Ford are claiming.

I have now got to run the car another 750 miles until it hits 3,000 and then I have to see if the consumption is any better – they are saying it

Yes thanks Richard, I had spoken to a mechanic friend just after I posted and indeed the compression test won't show up a faulty oil control ring or a valve stem oil seal problem, so I was wrong in my assumption.

So, I am now even more concerned about this of course, but can only let...

The cost of the oil is not the issue, and in reality opening up the bonnet to see the V8 is not an issue either !.

It is the fear that if there is something wrong with the engine and I may get landed with a huge bill in the future. If I do buy it outright after 2 years I just have 1 year...

I have a response from the dealers.

The compression test was fine - 225-230 across the cylinders, so OK

Ford Technical say that the general rule for Petrol Engines is 0.5 litre per 1000km (600 miles).which is around 700 miles a pint.

My car is using around that,...

I use Aviva for my 2020 V8 and that plus a 1.4 litre Corsa is only 545 a year. I think the V8 must therefore only be about 300....

  • Welcome to the forum, and I hope you have many years of enjoyment out of the car.

Perhaps the phrase for us Mustang owners should be "Finally decided its time to bite the bullitt !!!! "

The dealers have reported the oil consumption to Ford Technical who have instructed a compression test to be done. So, sounds like the oil consumption cannot be within tolerance or they would have closed their case....

I took the car in to the dealers yesterday for their investigation. Oil was about one mm above the minimum after 930 miles since top up so at a rough guess still using a pint after 6-650 miles - surely not correct.

My money is on an oil control ring or a valve stem oil seal. Or maybe it...

Too old to bother with Facebook and very wary of the dangers it poses. Like the girl at the local pub who was in utter shock when she was sacked for often being on her phone (and repeatedly warned) instead of serving customers !! I used to tell people at work how strong the glue on their phones must...
