    Malibu fires

Spotted this photo from the Malibu fires, of a Shelby being pushed out of a garage. Hope it made it.

    And not so lucky

Not good but it looked like the Shelby had been hidden away for some time.

There are pictures on the net of people burned to death in their cars, so whereas I have to be glad the Shelby was saved ........ I would have gladly seen it as a burnt out wreak if the firemen had been able to save another life.

    Agreed

Lots of things to be both happy and sad about in the California fires.

I agree with Scaff on the saving of people though.

It was reported on another forum that after checking the properties for people and having no water to fight the fire they tried to save property

Dont get me wrong Peter - I was not trying to imply that the fire fighters saved a Shelby rather than a life,
these guys are hero’s of the first order.
The point I was making was that I would happily see the Shelby a burnt and another life saved (just like the firefighters).

My friend, Barry had a very close call.
Below is a picture of his house, a few days ago. It suffered some damage but got away very lightly, all things considered.
He has an expanse of open land at the back and managed to get his collection of classic dirt bikes and his old Triumphs out into the open, along with his truck. He watched the fire sweep through but fortunately he did the right thing and no vehicles were damaged. All his family are safe, thank God.
The service provider even managed to get him back on the internet early this morning.

Pleased to report that my mate, Barry, has just about got things back to normal after the fire around his home.
Problem is, all the surrounding roads are either blocked or have been closed off. There are no surviving shops or general stores anywhere close by.

Yesterday he was able to cut across all the wasteland and avoid the closed roads on one of his bikes. He managed to get down to the Fire Station to take them a small gift and thank them for their efforts in protecting his home and property.

Yes, he's made a decent job of it. It's the newest bike he's got, but he's kitted it with some retro parts to give it a "Classic" Triumph look. He's got a spare set of wheels for it with knobbly tyres for riding in the desert.
    Here's another angle.

Bloody heartbreaking. . . and no guarantee that it's all insured, sadly.
I've been sent some dreadful images of the devastation. It's almost like looking at another planet. The scale of it is unreal.
Barry was busy getting sandbags put up yesterday. Now the rain has come, he's nearly as worried about mudslides as he was about the fire.
